The Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry has completed its Wall of States program. Seven states that pledged membership over the last year were officially welcomed to the Wall of States on Saturday, October 8, 2005. The states are Alabama, Alaska, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Louisiana, in honor of its enthusiastic participation as the first state to host an NMD traveling exhibition and as a gesture of support by the National Museum of Dentistry to state dental association members who have been affected by the recent hurricanes, was also welcomed as an honorary member of the Wall of States.
Launched in 1996, the Wall of States program represents more than 135,000 individual dentists in every state and the District of Columbia. Member dental associations provide funds to support NMD-developed exhibitions and programs that expand public awareness of the importance of oral health in overall health. State associations are acknowledged in several ways: on a special Wall of States donor board in the foyer of NMD, on the website, www.dentalmuseum.org (with links to association websites) and in dental-related publications including NMD's official newsletter The Articulator.
